Welcome to The Kitchen Academy NYC @ Selfup!

Looking for a fun and interactive gift or activity for your tween or teen?

Welcome to The Kitchen Academy! Does your child love spending time thinking about food and experimenting in the kitchen? If so, this is the perfect camp for them! There are no prerequisites for attending; all that’s required is curiosity about food and cooking.

Our goal is to help kids build a healthy, lifelong relationship with food. Cooking teaches children confidence, how to follow instructions, math, fine motor skills, social skills, and so much more! It’s an activity that can easily evolve into a lifelong passion.

The camp is led by two of our talented Chef-Instructors, Chef Paige and Chef Celeste, who have been teaching this popular program for over six years. They have a unique ability to engage kids in all things culinary.

This camp also makes a fantastic gift for anyone seeking a special, engaging experience—something a little different from toys or clothing!

We are located in the heart of FiDi @ 16 Beaver Street, FL 3, with Broad Street as the cross street.

While we have elevator access, there are three steps at the building entrance. When you arrive, look for the building with “16” on it (next door to Burger King). Please note that Google Maps may direct you to an alley, but the entrance is actually in front of the building. Look for "SelfUp" on the buzzer pad, press ‘SelfUp’ #3, and you’ll be buzzed into the building. Then, head up to the 3rd floor.

Detailed Description of the Event:

The Kitchen Academy is hosting 8 weeks of Culinary Courses for kids this summer. Each week focuses on a new cuisine and skill, and you can sign up for as many weeks as you'd like! The camp runs Monday to Friday, with snacks and lunch provided daily. At the end of each week, your child can take home any leftovers!

 

COURSES:

WEEK 1 (July 7 - July 11): CULINARY FUNDAMENTALS
Knife skills, basics in baking, mother sauces, butchery basics, cooking meat, pantry essentials, and more! Ideal for beginners or those looking to refine their culinary skills.

WEEK 2 (July 14 - July 18): PASTRY AND BAKING
Learn the art of both sweet and savory baking! From doughs to crusts, batters, chocolate, and more!

WEEK 3 (July 21 - July 25): INTERNATIONAL STREET FOODS
Take a culinary trip around the world and learn about street food from 17 different countries!

WEEK 4 (July 29 - Aug 1): DUMPLINGS FROM AROUND THE WORLD
Discover the world of dumplings—pierogies, momos, gyoza, gnocchi, shumai, samosas, and more!

WEEK 5 (Aug 4 - Aug 8): FOOD SCIENCE
Explore Molecular Gastronomy and discover cool culinary techniques like gels, caviar, foams, infusions, candy, edible paper, marshmallows, deep-fried ice cream, and more!

WEEK 6 (Aug 11 - Aug 15): RESTAURANT BOOTCAMP
Think you’ve got what it takes to work in a restaurant? Learn all about restaurant operations and experience running a class restaurant in just one week.

WEEK 7 (Aug 18 - Aug 22): INSTAGRAM AND TIKTOK
Bring your favorite viral recipe and let’s break it down! Learn the trendy culinary fads making waves online, from flavor mashups to new techniques, and put your creativity to the test!

WEEK 8 (Aug 25 - Aug 29): ASIAN AND EAST ASIAN COOKING
From sushi and dumplings to Tikka Masala and naan, explore the flavors of Asia. This class covers everything from sauces to plated desserts, both sweet and savory.

We welcome all kids between the ages of 10-17. They will be split into two groups:

  • 10-13 (5th-8th grade)
  • 14-17 (High School)
